This is a colourful and visual A3 poster, which explains what verse novels are and gives some suggestions of what books readers can start with. All books are young adult, appropriate for students ages 14+ years, due to some of the content and themes of the books. But all are well-written, quality and diverse texts that I would recommend readily. In addition, if they are on accelerated reader, then I have made a note of this alongside the book. Verse novels have become very popular with publishers and readers, particularly over the past five years. They offer a new, original way of reading verse and poetry, so can be a great way to encourage reading for pleasure. As part of the English curriculum at GCSE is to study a Shakespeare play, this fab poster includes five of the plays that feature on the most popular exam boards for GSCE English, AQA and Edexcel. For each play, I’ve highlighted several modern teen and adult books that are based on that specific play. This poster is intended to grab students’ attention and potentially direct them to more modern and accessible texts with central themes from Shakespeare’s plays, in order to further aid learning and understanding. Reading the books that are featured may also help to encourage reading for pleasure and is perfect for more able readers who want to read around their subjects.

Finding books to read that are suitable for young readers who have dyslexia can be difficult. But with this handy visual guide, you can ensure all of your pupils can access books and a joy of reading. This A3 colourful poster features 40 books, which increase in age suitability the further down the page you go, from foundation aged children to upper Key Stage 2 students. The books are all written by renowned children’s authors. They are an inclusive and diverse set of books that I would gladly give as book recommendations. They are all suitable for dyslexic readers (buff paper, accessible layout, clear font), but can be read by anyone and are particularly great for reluctant readers who can feel overwhelmed by lots of text on a page. I have included Accelerated Reader levels for each of the books, as I know that an increasing number of primary schools now use this in relation to reading. Pop this fab poster up in your shared spaces (reception, hall, corridors) or in classrooms in order to show and discuss books with students. If you are an English teacher, teaching GCSE English Literature, then this is the perfect resource for you! This fiction recommended visual book list poster is linked to the AQA GCSE set texts - the four most commonly used by teachers. These are; Macbeth A Christmas Carol Power and Conflict (Poetry Cluster) An Inspector Calls The featured books contain similar plots, characters or themes to the above set texts, or are even outrightly based on the books. The books are a diverse and inclusive collection that are appropriate for Year 10 and 11 readers. The poster is intended to concrete students’ knowledge and understanding of the set texts and are ideal for More Able students wanting to read around their subject. There are, however, at least one more accessible text for SEN students or lower ability readers for each set text.
